What makes a good channel logo

Your channel picture is shown very small, next to every video and every comment, and YouTube cuts it into a circle. That changes what works.

• One strong shape or one or two letters beats a full name. A long name becomes unreadable at that size.
• Keep the important part in the middle, so the circle does not cut it off.
• High contrast: a bright mark on a dark background, or the other way around.
• Flat colors, no fine detail and no thin lines.
• Make it match your thumbnails and banner, so the channel looks like one thing.

• A square icon for your profile picture. YouTube recommends a picture of 800 by 800 pixels. The full pack includes the mark at 1024 pixels, and the smaller pack includes a 512 pixel icon.
• Your full logo with a see-through background, to place on your banner, in your intro and as a corner mark on videos.
• Versions for light and dark backgrounds.
• With the full pack: one-color versions and vector files, which is what a printer needs for shirts, stickers and other merch.

Tips for describing a channel

Say what the channel is about, who watches it and the mood you want. For example: "A cooking channel for busy parents. Quick weeknight dinners. Warm, friendly, a bit playful." Then pick the feel that fits, such as Playful or Bold.

If you want the icon to be a single letter or your initials, say so in a change request after the first ideas appear.
